Earlier this month, Vantage Point historians Eric Abrahamson and Eric Zimmer presented papers at the 2019 annual meeting of the Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action (ARNOVA) in San Diego, CA.
Abrahamson’s Paper, “Before 1969: Donor Intent, Tax Avoidance, and America’s Great Foundations,” explored the roots and legacies of the Tax Reform Act of 1969. Abrahamson joined scholars Tyrone Freeman (IU Lilly Family School of Philanthropy) and Oonagh Breen (University College Dublin) on a panel entitled “History of Philanthropy and Fundraising.”
Zimmer’s paper focused on the history of the Native American Rights Fund (NARF), an Indigenous-focused public interest law firm in Colorado, and was part of a panel entitled “Perspectives on Native American Philanthropy: Demystifying, Decolonizing, and Advancing Equity.” Chaired by Professor John Ronquillo (University of Colorado, Denver), it also included panelists Raymond Foxworth (First Nations Development Institute) and Cheryl Ellenwood (University of Arizona School of Government and Public Policy).
