On February 24, Vantage Point historian Eric Zimmer returned to the University of Iowa as part of the Obermann Center for Advanced Studies’ “Humanities for the Public Good” initiative. Funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, this program is exploring the creation of a new PhD program for arts and humanities scholars seeking to to translate their training into careers and contributions beyond the academy.
Zimmer shared insights from his work with Vantage Point during an event entitled “Historically Speaking: History PhDs Tell Stories of Working Outside the Academy.” He presented alongside Fellow UI History alums Dr. Sylvea Hollis, a Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow for the National Parks Service (left) and Karen Christianson, the Director of Public Engagement at the Newberry Library in Chicago (right).
